GE Appliance Partners with Keurig

In 2014, consumers spoke loud and clear by letting the coffee industry know they preferred to prepare their coffee one cup at a time. According to the National Coffee Association, the trend grew by approximately 50 percent from the previous year. Keurig, the manufacturer of coffee makers that allow users to make a single serving, saw record sales last year. This inspired them to collaborate with GE Appliances to create the world's first single-cup coffee dispensing system built right into the door of a refrigerator.

Introducing the Keurig K-Cup Single Cup Brewer

Another inspiration for this new product was customers who already had the hot water feature on their Cafe French Door GE Refrigerators. After conducting a survey and discovering that two-thirds of the respondents were interested in a single-serve coffee or hot tea dispenser, GE and Keurig began working together to create the K-Cup.

21st Century Benefits for an Old Tradition

One of the most convenient features of this new system is that users have a continuous supply of hot water that is already fresh and filtered. There is no need to refill, unlike a traditional coffee maker or water cooler. Because the unit is built directly into a refrigerator, it conserves counter space in the kitchen. The water dispensed into your morning coffee or afternoon tea has been independently tested by a third party to ensure that it is up to 98 percent free of trace chemicals often found in water.

In addition to convenience, this appliance meets or exceeds the standards required for Energy Star certification. It uses approximately the same amount of energy as your cell phone when you charge it overnight. You can also use your cell phone to preset the brew time so your piping hot cup of coffee or tea is ready and waiting for you. Drinking coffee and tea may be an old tradition, but there is nothing old school about the technology offered by GE and Keurig in this single cup brewer.
