Have you ever looked at your old appliances and yearned for them to be a new color? Maybe you’ve even considered painting a new coat to spruce up some discolored spots. If your appliances have seen better days, it may be a better idea to purchase new Frigidaire appliances instead of giving them a paint job. But if you just want to transform your appliances or don’t want to spend a lot of money, you can do something a little more artsy to hold your appliances over while you save up. Painting appliances is a great, and inexpensive way to change up your kitchen without having to replace everything. This is an exciting opportunity to get as wild, or as plain as you want when it comes to painting your Frigidaire refrigerator, range, dishwasher, and any other appliance you think could use a little color. Follow these steps if you are interested in changing the look of your kitchen and adding a little color to your Frigidaire appliances.
It doesn’t take much
All you really need to paint your appliances is an appliance epoxy paint in spray can form, sand paper, and tape. If you decide to only do one appliance, such as your range, you’ll probably only need about 2 cans of paint. If you decide to do your refrigerator or ALL of your appliances so that they match – you’re going to need to reevaluate.
Not just regular paint
When coloring your kitchen appliances, it’s best to not just grab a regular can of paint from your nearest home depot and call it a day. You need specific paint made for appliances so it can handle the life of one. It’s also smart to find one with a primer included so you don’t need to buy a separate can of primer before coating your kitchen equipment.
Sand it down
The way to start your project is by first removing the appliance from your kitchen, or ensuring a tarp is laid underneath it so as to not get it everywhere. Then you’ll want to sand it down with a P120 grit sand paper strip so it’s ready for the paint job. Remember to dust the leftovers away with a dry cloth so all that’s left is a smooth surface.
Tape it up
Take off knobs and tape up the rest. You don’t want to paint over everything, so the tape will be helpful in covering the important wires and buttons that need to be seen.
Shake it up and get to it!
Shake your cans for up to a minute to mix it together good and then start painting your appliances! Hold your can about 6-8 inches away when spraying and then wait for your first coat to dry for approximately 30 minutes before adding the next coat. In approximately 6-9 hours, it should be ready to be fully put away!
